Updating WordPress

    I have my site: http://www.kelvinkhoo.com which my friend created using WordPress. I have absolutely zero knowledge with WordPress and my friend is too busy to help me maintain this site. Version used is probably so old that support may not be available too. I have decided to take ownership to try and update my own site using all the tools provided online. I am looking for advise on how should I first get started and what should I look out for to begin on my quest to revamp.
