Upgrade

    Hi,
I am trialling premium but have found a free theme I would like to use so would like to cancel the upgrade but don’t want to lose my domain name. I was talking to Jason S earlier and he advised I could keep my domain and pay $13 per year but I can’t see that option anywhere on the upgrades page.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! I’m happy to refund your Premium plan, but keep your Domain Mapping enabled.

I just want to mention the other features included in the Premium plan:

Just reply to confirm that you’d like to cancel the rest of that upgrade. :)

    Hi Shawna,
So if you go ahead and cancel the premium upgrade I will still keep my domain name and will be charged $13 per year?
I am having trouble making changes to the theme I’m using, ‘illustatr’, as on the demo there were pages for a portfolio and for a blog but it’s not showing these options for me to edit? How can I add pages?
    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hi Amy,

Correct, it costs $13 per year to map an outside domain to WordPress.com

Would you like me to remove that Premium plan for you?

I am having trouble making changes to the theme I’m using, ‘illustatr’, as on the demo there were pages for a portfolio and for a blog but it’s not showing these options for me to edit? How can I add pages?

You can create new pages here:

    https://wordpress.com/page

While making the new page, you can set its template to Illustratr’s Portfolio Page Template, explained here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/illustratr/

For setting up a separate home page and Blog page, follow these instructions:

    Set the Homepage

After those two things, you’ll have a Home page, Portfolio Page, and blog page. Let me know if you have questions about those steps.

    Best,

    -Alex G.

    Hi Alex,
Yes please can you cancel the premium upgrade, thanks.
Thanks for your help with my other questions- I will have a play around later on.

    Hi Amy,

I’ve removed your Premium plan upgrade. An authorization charge had already begun for $99 at the end of your free trial. I voided that out and your bank should remove the authorization charge from your account in a matter of days. You will not be charged anything further.

If you wish to add the Domain Mapping for $13 per year, without the Premium plan, you can do that here:

    https://wordpress.com/domains

As you have questions, just let us know and we’re happy to help. :)

    Hi Alex,
I need help! The illustatr theme looks like the headers are at the top of the page on the demo but I can’t seem to get them there on my page?
Also the demo shows you can have a grid of photos but again I cant work out how to do that?
    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hi Amy,

Illustratr doesn’t display a menu by default, but it does have that Primary Menu location if you want one. Follow these steps to make a custom menu:

    Menus

After making and saving the menu, make sure to set it to the ‘Primary Menu’ location.

Also the demo shows you can have a grid of photos but again I cant work out how to do that?

The Illustratr demo is making that Grid using a Portfolio Page Template.

To set yours up like the demo, follow these steps:

    1. Setup a static Front Page instead of displaying your latest post on your front page
    2. Edit the page you selected as your Front Page
    3. Change that page’s template to ‘Portfolio Page Template’ and click update
    4. Add several new Portfolio projects, and make sure each one has a featured image.

    Hi Alex,
I can’t get the menu items to show up on the top of my homepage? I’ve set them the location as primary.
I would like the top menu to just be ‘home’ and ‘blog’ and then directly underneath just be a grid of images
    Thanks,
    Amy

    Hi Amy,

You’ve created a menu, and set it to be the Primary Menu location, but you did not add any items to your menu. Here’s a quick video on how to do that:

You’ve already got the starting points for the grid. Just keep adding Projects, make sure they have a featured image, and page template makes the grid for you.
