I have started a free web site and am considering upgrading. I’ve consulted with a person who designs web pages, who told me Word Press does not include a host, in other words that it does not include everything I need to create a web page for my coaching business. Could you clarify, please?

I think the people you consulted talked about WordPress.org that doesn’t offer hosting but just the software WordPress. See : https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for more information.
