  Hello @lesleyannecade,

  I am afraid you cannot do that. WordPress.com only allows upgrades with annual (or two years) in advance payments. This is irrespective of using a direct debit or credit cards.

  However, all the plans are completely refundable within the 30 days from the date of purchase. If this might help you in someway.
