  The coupons are generally only good for new purchases, not renewals.

  Right, “upgrade today” as in upgrade from the free plan to a paid plan. That particular sale is not for renewals.

  Sorry for the confusion. Upgrade in this case means you’re starting on one plan and upgrading to a new one, not renewing your same plan.

  Coupons are only for new upgrades.

  Ok, I get it now. The coupon is for an upgrade but then the following year, it would be a renewal, and I couldn’t then use a coupon.
