Upgrade from wordpress.com (free hosted) basic account to personal account

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear Happiness Engineers,

In regards to a possible upgrade from basic to a personal account (wordpress.com), could you please help me with the following questions:

    1) Which will be the domain name provider (e.g. GoDaddy or other)? Is domain name privacy (directory registration / to reduce the risk of spam, hacking,…) included in the price? If not, can I opt for it additionally?
    2) Are there free themes supporting vertical images (for Pinterest)? Could you please name them for easy reference.
    3) Will I be able to do affiliate marketing (Amazon and others)? If yes, what will be the limits/restrictions with the personal account?
    4) Will the Jetpack statistics be more comprehensive than with the basic account? Will the data be permanently available to me?

    Thanking you

    Regards

  • Hi @tipsfromsharvi,

    – We take care of the registrations for you and provide privacy. It’s included in the plan cost.

    – Vertical images should be fine, though some themes will crop them in featured images. What dimensions are you hoping for?

    – Re: ad restrictions, this may help: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ You’ll just want to be sure to choose supported code:

    Add Code to Your Site

Our TOS also lists a few restrictions, but more along the lines of the type of sites and its content.

    – Jetpack stats are the same for all accounts.

    I hope this helps!
