Upgrade links won't work??!!

Not sure if this was already answered, but I couldn’t find anything on it…. when you upgrade i.e. to premium from basic, will the links to your site still work? It seems really dumb if WordPress wouldn’t think of something to ensure the links still work because then all the links you’ve added in the past to Twitter, Pinterest etc, will be dead links right? (I am planning to upgrade so I can get my site looking exactly how I want it and get rid of the “wordpress” in my url… which is what I mean, once that bit is gone from the url will my previous links posted in places still work???)

If you add a custom domain name & map it – all the old original links will still work – your visitors will see the new name if the browser address – but all the old links keep working – you will have two URL’s that work for everything

If you upgrade to a custom domain name – cool-name.com – there are two parts of making things work
1) Domain registration – the name is registered so that you own it (actually sort of like a yearly rental as you need to keep renewing it every year to use it) –
2) Domain mapping – that is the magic that WordPress.COM does here to associate cool-name.com to your-blog.wordpress.com so that visitors will be sent to the correct blog here
They can be bought individually or they are part of the fancy bundles
Your account is a year old so you don’t need to buy the $99.-/yr bundle but can buy Domain Registration $5.-/year and Domain Mapping $13.-/yr
Some domain names that have a bit fancy extension ( .me maybe might cost a bit more to register but no more to map)

really? I don’t have to pay the 99$ a year bundle? Obviously I’m an idiot then because I thought I did..what does it matter if you’ve been here for a year just because now I’m curious?

also – do you happen to know if with the domain registration and domain mapping does that allow me to edit the css on the theme I have now? I think that was the reason I thought I had to buy the $99/year bundle….???

That is the big secret that WordPress.COM does not want you to know about – I think the $99.-/yr is a scam –
The CSS editing is $30.-/yr stand alone

Not really – the staff has been very active sanitizing the support documents to keep people with older accounts from knowing they can get fair pricing
All upgrades here are EXACTLY what they say they are – no more no less

so for $5 domain registration, $13 domain mapping, $30 css I’m paying $48 a year instead of $99 that’s pretty amazing.

Dashboard >> Home >> Store >> You should see a list of all available upgrades
