upgrade merge

I would like to upgrade to wordpress.org with the $20 off the first year special. However, I’m concerned that while I’m building the new site, the current site will not be accessible. I have posts scheduled for the next few months. Also, how much storage space is available in the upgraded version? Is there someone who can walk me through this process? Thanks.

Hi there,
Because you’re moving your site to a different provider, support staff at WordPress.com will not have access to your site’s files or the ability to provide support for your current issue.
You can find support for your self-hosted WordPress site here:
If you need professional help for your self-hosted WordPress site, please check out these sites:
http://werkpress.com/
http://jobs.wordpress.net/
http://wpcurve.com/You may also wish to contact your host’s support team for more assistance.
However, regarding your WordPress.com site (craving4more.wordpress.com), you will not lose any of your content if you move to WordPress.org/self-hosting. Nothing is deleted, or taken down, when you transfer.
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

Hey there,
You can use WordPress software on a third-party server, rather than hosting here at WordPress.com. Here is the difference between WordPress.org (which you mentioned in your original note), and WordPress.com:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/You mentioned:
I would like to upgrade to wordpress.org with the $20 off the first year special.
We don’t offer anything like this, so I suspect that this is an offer to begin a self-hosted site that isn’t WordPress.com-related. Can you send me a link to where you saw this deal?
I do see that you have a WordPress.com site: http://craving4more.com/. That site IS hosted here, and your domain is hosted here as well.
You also said:
However, I’m concerned that while I’m building the new site, the current site will not be accessible.
Can you explain this further? Are you planning on re-creating craving4more.com elsewhere? I’m not sure where you intend to house the ‘new’ site…although, my assumption was that the ‘current’ site was the one hosted here.
The more details you can give me about what you’re trying to achieve, the more I can help out. We can clear up each other’s confusion :)
Thanks again!

I suppose I’m confused about the “host” portion of this. What am I paying for if it’s not for hosting? Does that make sense?
I saw this promotion: https://wordpress.com/plans/compare/craving4more.com
for the $20 off.
I suppose I’m also confused because I’ve already paid for the domain name –
In terms of your last question – I’d like to move http://www.craving4more.com to a site that has more storage space, as I’m almost out of media space with all my photos, and I’d like to have advertising on the site in order to create in income.
I’m really new to all of this, so please forgive my ignorance in this area.
Thank you! -
Hey there!
Thank you so much for all these details. This will help me out a bunch.
To clear up any confusion for the future, any sites hosted with us are WordPress.com (not .org). Trust me, I know it gets confusing since the names are so similar. :)
Also, hosting at WordPress.com is actually free. It’s the upgrades (like your custom domain name) that incur an additional charge.
If you want more storage space, upgrading to premium is absolutely a great option. The upgraded version has 10GB of additional storage (so, with the free 3GB, you’ll have 13GB altogether).

Can you clear up whether or not you’re upgrading craving4more.wordpress.com with the Premium upgrade, or if you’re starting a new site? If you’re simply upgrading the existing site, it will be accessible to you (and the public, if you’d like). There won’t be any “downtime.”
My suggestion is to add it as the 2-week trial, if you’re interested in trying it out. Then, there’s no pressure about the decision and you have time to try out the new features.
You can do that here, by clicking Start Free Trial:

We have a program called WordAds that might interest you. Here’s information about that program, as well as details about advertising on WordPress.com sites:

Drop me a line with anymore questions or concerns! Thanks again :)
