Upgrade Questions
-
Hi!
I was wondering if you could help me clear up some queries I had about upgrading?
Our church currently have our domain name registered with GoDaddy (for £19.82/year) and after lots of playing with our site, we’ve found that our website, created with WordPress, is unable to get rid of the ‘accept/reject cookies’ banner that shows up on every page due to being split between GoDaddy and WordPress.
So we’re looking at moving everything over to WordPress. We’ve already got a site that we’re happy with and would be interested in the Personal plan, but would we be able to keep the domain that we have from GoDaddy and apply it directly to WordPress (stoswaldschurchbidston.org)?
I’ve done the suggested ‘add a domain > use a domain I know’ but it gives me this notification: ‘stoswaldschurchbidston.org can’t be transferred due to a transfer lock at the registry, but you can connect it instead.’
I’ve then clicked on the ‘Connect Your Domain’ button but it only gives me the option of having a premium plan, when I definitely only want the Personal. Can I change this option so we do not pay for a premium account?
Our plan with GoDaddy expires in February, but I want to make sure I know how to do this quickly when the plan expires so it’s less hassle in the new year.
Any help would be brilliant!

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I understand your concern about the domain and website setup.
Yes, you can move your domain over to us so the custom address is properly applied. Currently, it is connected via “domain masking” set up at GoDaddy, and that connection method can cause Search Engine Optimization (SEO) issues.
To connect your domain, you will first need to upgrade to one of our plans. The Personal Plan is a great place to start. Once you upgrade, let us know, and we can walk you through the process of transferring your domain to us so all your billing is in one place here at WordPress.com.
This will allow you to eliminate the “accept/reject cookies” banner issue and have smoother management of your domain and website. We’re here to help you with the process, so don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions or when you’re ready to make the transfer.
Let me know if you need any further assistance or if you have any other questions. We’re here to help!
Warm regards,
