Upgrade questions

    Hi all,

I’m the engineer in charge of upgrading our WordPress installation (self-hosted) at Chat Sports, Inc. We’re currently using 3.1 and trying to upgrade to 3.9 (long overdue, I know).

The only complicating factor is that we have quite a bit of non-WordPress code which accesses wordpress tables directly. Essentially this means that if the upgrade from 3.1 -> 3.9 comes with any significant database schema changes, it could dramatically break the rest of our code.

I’m not myself particularly experienced with WP, and I didn’t set up the system as it exists, so I’m hoping someone can chime in on any of the following:

Are there any DB schema changes with this upgrade?

Is there a version changelog anywhere that I can look at to determine whether there are DB schema changes from one version to another?

Finally, is there a better way (and there probably is), for non-WP code to access WP data than by simply directly accessing the SQL tables… that would be great to know about. Right now our integration of WP relies on the underlying data schema not changing, and that seems questionable at best.

    Thanks!

The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

This site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

The forum at WordPress.ORG is not connected to WordPress.COM so you will need to open an account at .ORG if you do not already have one. You may use the same email at WordPress.ORG as you do at WordPress.COM.

    Oof, thanks!

Like I said… not very familiar, I just have the pleasure of upgrading it. Thanks for the heads up!
