upgrade renewal

I just received an ‘invoice’ telling me I need to pay now for my upgrade, but several days ago I received an email telling me the automatic renewal would go into effect. I don’t want to lose my domain name; nor do I want to have the problem of double paying.

Yes it does look like you were billed twice and I’ve refunded your second payment. It may take a few days for the refund to show up in your statement.
