Sorry, this autoposted from the help function.

I’m migrating from Substack and trying to set up a paid newsletter on WordPress. I want to give some people access to paid content without charging them but I can’t see a way to manually change their subscription type. Any tips for achieving this?

Thanks for getting in touch. There are a few ways you could go about achieving this outcome, and I’ll help you get started in understanding those. The hosting plan on this project also allows you to reach our live chat support team when help is needed. That’s the fastest way to find help from our team.

    1. Password Protected Page

With this option, you would provide these individuals with the password, and they can enter it to access and view a specific page you’ve built for this purpose. The content can be added here from the regular member’s section. If somebody needs to get kicked out, all you do is update the password and reshare it with the right folks.

This could also work as a preview for folks interested in joining. You could do a certain amount of time as a trial with access to a password-protected page and then change the password when the time is up.

These pages could be run alongside option 2.

    2. Membership Plugins

This is a popular request that we see. Using third-party plugins is possible with your hosting plan, and it will enhance the features and functionality of the project. There are a few considerations when seeking out a plugin. Ensure the plugin is current on updates with WordPress versions, the support forum is active, and there are good reviews. This is one example of a membership plugin that meets your idea.

Our team won’t be able to help you with the setup, customization, or help for a third-party plugin. That help comes from the developer or company that builds and maintains the plugin.

What other goals do you have for this site? I’d love to chat more and help save you time and energy in reaching those goals.

Here are a few other considerations:

    – Professional Email will increase the value of communication you do through the site. It’s a cheap and effective way to enhance your overall branding and professionalism online.
    – Site Performance Monitoring through our Jetpack Boost plugin. This tool keeps a historical log to learn which site changes impact your performance. We know that when sites take longer than 3 seconds to load, views and revenue drop. It also negatively impacts your SEO when the site is slow. This is a solid investment; on the paid plan, you’ll get access to the team for tips and help when needed.
Free Webinars are available to you. Our support team creates these and hosts them regularly.

I hope that helps. Write back with any other questions/concerns.
