Upgrade the browser

    Firefox 2
    Opera 9
    IE 7

    If you are not running the above, please do.
    Old browsers and new code tend not to mix so well – and we do not support every browser in every version.

    So FF 1.5.0.8 is considered ‘old’ and unsupported even though it was only released nine days ago? Wow, deprecation moves fast these days. I doubt I’m the only one waiting for 2.0.1 before upgrading either, but whatever.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Got to be entirely honest say say that I took the leap to FF2 the day it was released. Don’t know why I did it, I just did.

    So far (apart from a couple of add-ons (IE Tab Mix for one) that don’t work I haven’t had a problem anywhere so far.

    Of course, Mark’s suggestion assumes that you are using a PC where you can upgrade. This means that you’re not using a public (internet cafe) PC or a work machine where the PTB are so strict we can’t even put an IE update on!

    wank – 1.5.0.8 has cookie problems. I have had lots of problems reported and almost the day it did I posted here to leave it alone.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m not sure my computer will run IE7. If it won’t, I’ll have to leave WordPress, and I’m not too thrilled about that possibility.

    Firefox 2.0 is wonderful! I waited for a week, but perhaps it wasn’t necessary.

    @wank
    Within 2 hours of the firefox 1.5.0.8 ugrade being installed on my computer I began to have all kinds of “cookie” problems. I read that others were having problems too and downloaded firefox 2 two days later. VOILA! The problems I had immediately disappeared and I have a great browser.
    On the other hand, my friend has spent the last week having problems with 1.5.0.8 and refusing to download firefox 2 while waiting for them to be “cleared up” in an upcoming version. I’m blogging and she’s [b]itching so I’m saying the same thing to you I said to her: What are you waiting for girl? :D

    @rain

    We aren’t talking about a work computer in your case are we? I mean you’re not compelled to use IE, right? So why wouldn’t you run firefox 2 then? I don’t get it.
    P.S. This is what Mark posted last week http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=5206&replies=10

    I’ve been asked to make wordpress.com work perfectly with IE5, IE for Mac, Firefox 1.0, early Netscapes and browsers branded with AOL. I genuinely think some people do not know other browsers or upgrades exist.

    It’s not the case that wordpress.com will not work with earlier browsers – and it’s definitely not that people must use the very latest (wank’s concerns are shared by many) but I do think it’s reasonable to expect at least one version behind to be used. But the behaviour of the browser is a key element to everything online and in many cases when I have suggested an upgrade I have been met with “Wow – everything is so much better”.

    thereflectiveteacher – Safari has problems uploading images. We recommend Firefox for Mac due to that.

    Thanks, Mark.

    I’ve no problem uploading images on Safari. I only have problems uploading other files (but that’s no biggie). I noticed a few changes with the dashboard today and was worried that Safari wasn’t supported at all.

    Thanks for the reply!

    What about Mosaic? Aren’t we going to support Mosaic? :)

    @drmike
    MY GAWD I feel so humbled – you own a bona fide collector’s item – lucky you. ;)

    I use Win XP and FF 1.5.0.8 seemed to be working perfectly for me. However, I took the advice and updated to ff2. Now I no longer have tab facilities, I have lost my bookmarks – and that is just what I have noticed in the first 15 minutes!
    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • Unknown's avatar

    You lost your bookmarks and tabs?? I also still have Win XP and FF 1.5.0.8. But like last week something popped up saying to update. I clicked it and had to restart the computer. So that wasn’t 2.0??

  • Unknown's avatar

    WOAH! My OS is windows xp professional and I downloaded a firefox2 with zero ensuing problems. Everything went as smooth as glass. I’m really sorry to hear about the problems. :(

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yep – I have XP Pro (service pack 2) I’m about to try another install

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m running Windows 97 and Microsoft won’t suport my software anymore, so wish me luck. And don’t tell me to buy a better computer/package unless you’re willing to pay the bill.

    I’m aware that older systems get bypassed when it comes to the newest bells and whistles and such; I just want to be able to blog as I have been, that’s all. Is functionality going to be reduced for those of us running IE6?

  • Unknown's avatar

    But on their page it doesn’t show anything to download 2:
