upgrade to a new domain
-
Hi, I want to upgrade my website: http://blackbeautyhaircareandcosmetics.wordpress.com/ to a new domain to match my forum on the same topic.
Will I lose all my traffic? The blog’s quite popular and I don’t want to lose my followers.
Secondly, will I lose my template?
And lastly, the purpose of my blog is to complement my forum and drive traffic to the forum, which is less well attended. Would mapping my blog to a subdomain on the forum be a good idea? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You will go down slightly in search engine rankings in the short term but in the long term it will be better for you. It won’t affect your theme or your content.
I will warn you that if, in the eyes of staff, a site exists solely to direct traffic to a different site, like a forum, that site is in violation of the terms of service here and might be suspended. If you are doing real blog posts that shouldn’t be a problem.
I would suggest getting a custom domain for the blog and making the forum a subdomain, but you could do it the other way around. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

That’s really helpful – thanks. And thanks for the warning – I’m 100% committed to my blog as well as the forum so there shouldn’t be a problem, I just want to capitalise on the success of the blog over on the forum too.
Please could you also explain what it would mean to my forum to make it a subdomain of the blog? It sounds like quite a complicated process (to me, the uninitiated). I have read the instructions but it doesn’t make much sense. As I’ve just bought a new domain for the forum, I may leave it for now – is there any other (easy) way to link the two or drive the traffic over to the forum apart from linking across? -
Please can someone advise me the best course of action? I don’t know whether to get a brand new domain or map to a subdomain? My blog is doing pretty well & I want to link it over to a website that’s not doing so well. Can anybody advise?
