Upgrade to a previous .com account

I prevoulsly had declanconner.com but unfortunately I failed to renew due to personal circumstances. I have done a search and no one seems to be using it and I would like to know if I could restore this upgrade as it says it is taken and offers different alternatives. Obviously I prefer declanconner.com

The domain may not currently be used but someone (presumably not you) owns it. That is the danger you face if you let a domain expire. I’d never own a domain for that reason as I know someone who let an interesting domain expire only for some porn site to snap it up to redirect to more porn. Perhaps the people who bought your domain are squatters and will sell it for $thousands. Probably easier to register another domain if a custom domain (rather than a .wordpress.com address) is important to you. There are lots more suffixes besides .com.

To clarify, from what I see on this end the domain was last renewed on our end on Feb 26, 2019 as you can see here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing
However the domain was not renewed in Feb of this year, and expired for lack of renewal, and placed back on the market for resale. Sadly now someone else owns this domain so we are not able to assist in recovering it for you. You will need to register a different domain for your site instead, which you can do here: https://wordpress.com/domains/add/declanconner.wordpress.com
