  Can I take a monthly subscription plan and then upgrade to yearly plan after 6 months?

  Our montly and yearly plan options are priced differently so there is not a way to convert a plan from monthly to yearly.

  Instead we recommend that you purchase the yearly version of the plan and cancel the monthly one (so you do not double pay) and if you are at all concerned about doing that correctly you can just contact us and we’ll be happy to help with that. https://wordpress.com/help/contact

  This is why we recommend first purchasing the annual version of the plan before cancelling the monthly. This ensures everything will stay exactly as it is now.
