For this type of issue is often recommended to check with your bank to see if they are not blocking the payment, and to make sure the card is valid for online and international transactions, as pointed by fresatomica on this thread: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/please-contact-support-quoting-error-hytfsi/

I go to UPGRADE and click PURCHASES and then on PAYMENT METHODS i click on ADD PAYMENT METHODE.
Even before entering any of details on debit card message pope up.
The exact pope up message is
Error preparing new payment method configuration. Please contact support quoting error HYTFSI

I found this reply from jerrysarcastic here, where he mentions clearing the block on your end when the issue was “Error preparing new payment method configuration”.
Just wanted to mention that. I’m not sure if the info is relevant or if it actually fixed the problem back then.Also, ba28862 because the issue is before the actual payment, it may be a problem with your browser. I’d recommend trying from another browser or clearing the cache.
