Upgrade to Personal Package

  We want to upgrade from Free to Personal Package, in order to remove Ads. Do we have to pay 4 EUR per month? Are there any other costs we might have to pay (domain name / hosting) ?

  Hi Ann,

  All plans on WordPress.com are billed yearly, so there wouldn’t be a monthly cost unfortunately. And, you’ll only pay the price of the plan which is $48 per year. You don’t have to pay for domain and hosting, because WordPress.com takes care of hosting for you, and when you upgrade, you get a free domain credit. You only pay extra, when you want another domain, or want to change your domain.

  You also have to pay extra, if you want to buy a theme that isn’t available free on your plan. The Person plan is good for you, as it has tons of themes which are nice, so you won’t overall need to pay extra. Let me know if you have any further questions going forward.

  Thanks for your quick response! Can we choose a domain name as we wish for the free domain, for example abc.at or abc.com?

  Yes, you can. If it is available, then yes you can choose that domain. You can learn all about domains here. Let me know if you have any more questions going forward.

  I come again to ask you some more questions, before we upgrade our website from Free to Personal Package.

  1. If we change the domain from abc.wordpress.com to abc.com, can we ensure that anyone using the old address will be redirected?

  2. Can we keep all the old posts and don´t lose anything?

  3. When we remove an admin user, won’t his posts and pages be deleted?

  All traffic from the .wordpress.com address will be automatically redirected to your custom domain.

  2. Can we keep all the old posts and don´t lose anything?

  You won’t lose anything as the upgrade is non-destructive. You’ll continue to work on your site as nothing have happened.

  3. When we remove an admin user, won’t his posts and pages be deleted?

  When you remove a user from your site you can decide whether you would prefer to have all of that user’s content attributed to another user on the site or removed permanently.
