upgrades for 99 package
-
I purchased the 99.00 package. I have been about to set up DNS and such so I have my domain name mapped, but how do I see more template options that are covered in the 99.00 package?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Kristi,
Our full selection of themes can be browsed here: http://theme.wordpress.com/
The $99 bundle includes increased storage space, our custom design upgrade, our video uploading service (VideoPress), no ads, and a domain. It doesn’t include extra templates, rather the ability to customize them further.
Welcome to WordPress.com! Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else!
-
Oh I totally misunderstood that, I thought I was getting more templates. Darn!
What is a custom design upgrade?
-
:-(
It allows you to change the fonts on your site, the colors, as well as use custom CSS for more intense changes to the template (some details: http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/custom-design/ )
Was there any particular theme that had caught your eye?
I’ll be heading out for the weekend relatively soon, so have a good weekend if I don’t catch your reply before signing off!

No just thought it would offer more options. I don’t us CSS, so I probablly should have just bought domain mapping…I will play around however. So if I have domain mapping, do I need to still pay network solution for hosting? Is that thru wordpress now?
-
Hi Kristi,
You’ll need to continue paying for domain registration, since we can’t transfer the registration itself onto WordPress.com.
Network Solutions, though, is on the expensive side if I recall correctly. You may be able to save some money by using a different registrar, like NameCheap. Transferring registrars wouldn’t impact using WordPress.com and since your nameservers are already pointing to WordPress.com, nothing would change for your visitors during any transition.
Please do let me know if you have any questions! Hope you had/are having a great weekend!

awesome, thank you so much….this website stuff is so hard for me :) I haven’t a clue what I am doing, can you tell?
-
how do I activate a side bar on my blog page, so people can see my Facebook as well as sign up for following my blog?

Hi Kristi,
It looks like you may have changed the default template when drafting your pages to “Full Width” instead of the Default Template.
You’ll need to edit each page and change Full Width to Default under Page Attributes. I’ve changed the About page for you as an example: https://kristifosterphotography.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1&action=edit / http://kristifosterphotography.com/about/
Please let me know if that was as clear as mud and if you need anything else ;-)
Welcome again!

for some reason I can’t see that link…is there a way to only have the side bar on the blog page as the rest is just my website.
-
Hi Kristi,
The Blissful Blog theme has full-width set for the blog pages, so that isn’t an option at this time, sadly.
-
that sucks…and is weird cause it wsa showing up there one day. Is there another theme that is similar that would allow me to have that ability?
-
Have you checked out the Forever theme?
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/forever/
It allows the sidebar on blog pages (both the listing of posts and individual post pages as well). The biggest difference initially is your site’s tagline will appear after the menu instead of before on the homepage and only on the homepage.
Thanks for your patience and I’m sorry this has not been as smooth as I’d want it to be for you :-(
-
I’m sorry to be such a pain. is there an option of having all pagess, except the blog full width (on the frever theme)? I don’t care for it on all the pages but do want it on my blog page. Also for the premium sites, is that a one time cost for the site or is it per year? thanks for your help…I am so not website saavy so i’m muddling thru.
-
You’re not a pain! I’m here with ya as long as you need.
Yes, you can disable the sidebars on pages. When editing a page, right under where the blue button was to Publish (or Update), there is a Page Attributes section. On Forever, you can change the Template option to “Full Width, No Sidebar”. That way, your pages would be full-width while your blog pages include the sidebar.
If you’d like to go this route and would like assistance making the change, I’m happy to help.
Regarding the premium bundle ($99), that is an annually-renewable upgrade. For a premium theme (price varies), that is a one-time purchase.
Thanks for your patience!

I also like Daydream, Photographer and Nashita (not the black background and white text however)…what would be the advantage to purchasing a custom theme other than the obvious look? Can I change background colors and such on a purchased template? DO you have any specific thoughts to any of the ones I like ? :)
-
Photographer is pretty popular, though Nishita isn’t bad either.
With a premium theme, the major advantage is the look as well as you’ll have access to a support forum directly handled by the theme’s developers—a more direct connection instead of going through the generic team, like me, if you have questions or issues regarding the theme itself.
With Photographer itself, it has a good number of features not found in every theme, including a portfolio page options, allowed you to use or not use the featured image on a post/post/etc.
I like Forever still as well. I don’t have a strong opinion in any direction with those, but I would avoid Nishita only because it doesn’t have the option to remove the sidebar on non-blog pages. The reverse of our current problem!
-
Perfect! Thanks for the input. So maybe photographer would be a good one? the only option different than Forever is the portfolio option? Meaning what about the featured image?
-
Forever will show the featured image on the blog page, if present. With Photographer, you have the option of it you’d like that behavior or not for your site, if that makes sense.
In short, it’s an extra option to change the default behavior in Photographer.
I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to upsell you, so I don’t want to push Photographer. It sounds like a fine choice though. You can give it a spin and we have an easy 30-day refund policy on custom themes if you don’t like it.
-
so will I be able to see on the side bar “sign up for my blog with an email address’ with either forever or photographer? I’m getting there…I want to decide soon and get something going so people can see my facebook and see a sign up for blog option.
