Upgrading!!

Hi there!! Happy thursday evening or Friday morning! I have a free account. I am curious about upgrading for the purposes of a custom website. Before i totally botch things up i named this site Arthur Ellis Photography. I have a Smugmug site called Arthur Ellis photography with a domain name through GoDaddy. How in the world do i go about coordinating this digital web of intrigue? I am good at following directions but not figure this out on my own!! LOL…. Your thoughts?

To use a domain URL you purchased elsewhere on any wordpress.COM site you will need to upgrade first and then map to an existing domain. To map an existing domain see http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

https://wordpress.com/plans/Registering an underlying .wordpress.com URL first is required for domain mapping and that underlying .wordpress.com URL does not have to match the domain URL when you are domain mapping.
What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL .wordpress.com to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
