Hi briansteel
Domain credits come free with each plan. In that, you can either register a domain or map an existing domain to your WordPress.com
So, if you don’t even want to use the custom domain to your site. You will still have to pay for the plan to get all the features under that plan.
Hope this helps.

BUT
THe following reply was not accepted
Can you pls forward it for me?>
Thanks
Brian SteelDear Shubhamamath
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I am still not CLEAR whether I can pay my money (willingly!) and remain as I AM
at briansteel.wordpress.com [as my URL] with all my 12 years of 125 blog pieces
and continue in the same uncomplicated way of posting my typed documents as blogs
with no complex html, plugins, or other knowledge. Why do I have to register ANYTHING?
For my money (? $60 +) I just want the lowest level of extras – STATS, normal email contact, etc.
NOTHING WHIZBANGBTW
My blogs are in TEXT, often LONG (for example on Spanish, French, or Hindi), and only with a very occasional photo.
Do you understand my nervousness?SO. Can I go ahead and pay WITHOUT ANXIETY?
Thx for yr patience
Best wishes,

Hi there Brian, I see you’re referring to https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/upgrading-from-free-wordpress/ which I’ve closed in favor of this thread, but I’ve also flagged Staff to address the rejected reply you mention.
Stats: All WordPress.com plans (including free) have the same basic stats through Jetpack. Upgraded plans from Premium and up can add additional Google Analytics.
Normal email contact: by this I understand you mean support by email? If so, any upgrade plan includes support by email. Premium plans and up also have Live Chat support.
Upgrading to any WordPress.com plan also removes advertising from your site or from the Premium plan up allows you to earn from WordAds, WordPress.com’s advertising program if you choose.
Your current theme or posts will not change as a result of upgrading. From the Premium plan and up additional themes are available to be activated.
Upgrading also gives you the ability to register or map a custom domain, but you are not required to add a domain to your site. To upgrade without adding a domain, go to your site’s Plans dashboard at https://wordpress.com/plans/briansteel.wordpress.com and select your plan from there. If you run into any issue with this, please post back here.
I hope that answers your questions, but if not, please post back to this thread here https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/upgrading-a-free-site/

Hi @briansteel,
I am still not CLEAR whether I can pay my money (willingly!) and remain as I AM at briansteel.wordpress.com [as my URL] with all my 12 years of 125 blog pieces and continue in the same uncomplicated way of posting my typed documents as blogs with no complex html, plugins, or other knowledge.
Yes this is possible if you upgrade to our Personal or Premium plans. You don’t have to register a custom domain, and can instead use the “wordpress.com” domain for as long as you wish.
In fact, as @justjennifer mentions nothing about your site or how you use it will change. It will still appear and function just as it does now, and the plan will only add extra features but won’t actually change what you have now.
Specifically, the Personal plan I see in your shopping cart your upgrade will add the following:
- More storage space for audio, images, and document uploads.
- No ads shown to your visitors (we have these on free sites to help pay our bills)
- Priority email support so you do not have to use our public forums for help
- A custom address if you want. This is totally optional and you can definitely skip it
I hope this clarifies, but if there are any other questions you have please let us know!
