upgrading a free website to a paid plan

I have a question regarding a paid plan. What will happen to my blog if once I will not be able to pay the annual fee anymore? Will a portion of my blog be deleted or what will happen to my blog then?

Hey there @tasneemu, thank you for asking! Generally only upgraded features would stop working.
So if you had a premium theme, and let that expire, the content would still be there but with a default theme.
But if you used an upgrade to add a plugin, any content you add with that would likely stop working when the site reverts to a plugin-less state.

Oh, and I should add, if you are in a case where you want to downgrade your site from having plugins to no longer having them anymore, we can usually help with that. We’d just want to do that instead of just letting the upgrade expire. I hope that helps!

Hi there,
To clarify, a “default” theme would be a free theme that we offer by default to folks who are signing up and creating new sites with us. Typically one of these, chosen at random: https://wordpress.com/themes/free/filter/
Note that this theme substitution would only happen if you upgrade to a paid plan, and happen to also pick a paid theme: shttps://wordpress.com/themes/premium/filter/
However, if you upgrade, but stick with one of our free themes, if you later decide to let your upgrade expire your site will still use that same free theme (no change) so this would only affect you if you were to pick a Premium (paid) theme.

Yes you will have full access to the site as a free site. Your free site includes limited storage space for images you upload, but as long as you have fewer images than that (you are still under the limit for free sites) you would still have access to pictures too.

I only need to upgrade because my storage space is full. I don’t intend to change my free theme, I just need more space to upload pictures. So how would this work out for me if I have used more than 3GB and need to downgrade back to a free plan? What will happen to my uploaded pictures then?

If you downgrade to the Free plan, anything you have uploaded to your Media Library will not be deleted. You simply won’t be able to upload anything else.
