upgrading and domain names
-
I started a website using the free option on wordpress, but now I want to upgrade to the premium option. I have purchased my domain name alyshabethphotography.com and alyshabethphotography.com.au with net registry.
When I upgrade it doesn’t let me use my domain name which I have paid for, it saying that its taken and someone else is using it. And so I don’t want to pay for the Upgrade if I can use My own Domain name.
Can someone please hep with my predicament
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have flagged this for the staff to help
Are you domain mapping? that is the proper way to use your own name
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Domain Mapping is $13.-/yr per name, however if you purchased the $99.-/yr package – one domain mapping is included in the package
-
sorry I’m not sure what domain mapping is? I thought if you just purchase a domain name It is yours, allowing you to use it anywhere. and I thought if I upgrade to a premium package I can use my own domain name?

Domain names are actually rented – fail to renew and they go away
yes you can use your custom domain name here – that is what domain mapping is – it changes the name of the base blog (whatever.wordpress.com) to your custom domain name (whatever.com)
The site linked to my name is domain mapped – if you visit you will see captnmike.com – but the base blog name is captnmike.wordpress.com
You don’t need a premium package to map your custom domain name to a blog here – just the domain mapping – the package saves you money if you need all the features of the package
-
Once I have mapped my domain name does it then change from alyshabethphotographs.wordpress.com to alyshabethphotography.com.au (which is the domain name that I registered)

visitors will see alyshabethphotography.com.au in their browser address bar when they visit your site – you will however still write Posts and such in alyshabethphotographs.wordpress.com (your base blog)

Hi alyshabj,
i can confirm that you have not mapped any domains to your WordPress.com site. As auxclass mentioned, purchasing a domain gives you ownership of the domain for the amount of time which you bought the domain for.
However, before you’ll be able to “attach” the domain to your WordPress.com site you’ll need to purchase domain mapping from us.
You may purchase domain mapping from your My Domains page at https://wordpress.com/domains
Here is the documentation link again:

Ok thanks for this, just one more question, because this seems like the better and cheaper option then upgrading to premium. However I just wanted to check if i was to plan an event can I have the link to another website such as Eventbrite.com so it looks more professional.

Adding domain mapping will be cheaper than the WordPress.com Premium Plan, however, you will only get the domain mapping option. When you purchase the Premium Plan you also get other upgrades to help you create your site. Full list.

Could you give an example of what you’re trying to do? You may link to a third-party site from your menu without any trouble using custom menus.
In the case of Eventbrite we also have some custom themes just for that service:
