upgrading but also disssasociating websites from my account

I have started building two websites for a friend, but now that friend has turned into a client; eventually, I will need to hand over access codes for the two sites. The two sites are associated with my personal website and personal account.
Can someone tell me if I can establish a new account for these two sites? I am also going to be upgrading them to paid personal sites; is there a way to detach them in that process, maybe?

You can, yes. The first step would be to create a new account for the site. The site can then be transferred to that WorPress.com account — if you own the site, you will see the option to transfer it. This guide has step by step instructions:

The plan will be moved over when the site is transferred but if it includes a domain, you will need to transfer the domain to the blog’s new owner before you’ll be able to transfer ownership of the blog itself:
