Upgrading Current WordPress Platform

  Hi there,
  We have a website built on what appears to be an old WordPress platform (2014). I have recently joined the organisation as Marketing Manager – and I am eager to update and enhance our website. I am new to WordPress CMS.
  Can you advise:
  (a) Is it possible to transistion to the newer WordPress Platform that enables more user-friendly interface? Or do we have to buy a new plan and build a new website?
  (b) What steps are involved | best practice to upgrade
  (c) Do we have to go through the company who designed and use the same hosts for the domain (or can we select a different support partner for the new website/ CMS)?
