Upgrading from ‘Free’ Plan to ‘Personal’

I’m considering upgrading from the ‘free’ plan that I have to the ‘personal’ plan so that I can change the lengthy site address/domain that I was given when I registered.
Basically, I’m trying to change weeabros187123836.wordpress.com to something more simple like weeabrosshow.com or whatever. I haven’t actually decided yet.
If I upgrade to get the ‘custom domain name’, will I have to worry about transferring all of the site’s current content over to the new location?
If so, what are some of the simplest options out there for transferring content? I really don’t want to have to go page-by-page, item-by-item to move everything. That seems pretty time consuming.

Hi there, if you purchase a Personal Plan on WordPress.com, that comes with a domain credit, which will allow you to make your domain something more simple (like weeabrosshow.com). You don’t need to decide just yet!
Should you do this, no, you don’t need to worry about transferring any of the content. Everything will remain the same except for your new domain.
If you set your custom domain as your primary domain too, all previous links will redirect to your new domain as well: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domain

Just to clarify, nothing moves if you buy a domain – you’ll still have the exact same site, and the free address will still exist behind the scenes. Think of adding a domain as putting a shiny new dust-jacket on a book – it only changes the outside of the book, not the inside. Adding a domain on a WordPress.com site works exactly the same.
Also note that you can change the free address without buying any upgrades. What you can change to will depend on what’s available, but it is another option you could consider. weeabrosshow.wordpress.com appears to be available, for example.

Ah, I see. Changing the free address would not come with the extra redirect option, though, correct?
As in, I would still have to deal with changing links to the old site, right?

Right, changing the free address would not get you a custom domain name, it would still contain the wordpress.com.
