upgrading from FREE to paid wordpress.com

  Need to confirm how-to-do this:
  I sign up for paid upgrade
  create export file from Free site and follow directions in the file
  then go to the new paid Site and Import the file
  my confusion, if it’s that easy Why the option to pay $129 to do it?
  I just don’t want to end up with a blog I don’t like.
  Is there a way to preview??

  The Guided Transfer option ($129) is for moving your site to another hosting provider and it’s not only the export/import process but the installation and configuration of the WordPress software to that other host. You can read more about it here:
