Upgrading from Free wordpress

  Can I pay for the basic upgrade and extra facilities BUT KEEP my current wordpress.com website NAME?
  Ive had it for 12 years. I dont WANT a different domain!
  It is not clear to me …

  Domain credits come free with each plan. In that, you can either register a domain or map an existing domain to your WordPress.com

  So, if you don’t even want to use the custom domain to your site. You will still have to pay for the plan to get all the features under that plan.
