Upgrading information

  I am running a blog for an academic study, and want to upgrade to business plan, however I need more information before I can commit our budget to this. Can you please answer the following questions:

  1) Can we pay for a 5 year business account up front?

  2) If so, what would happen to the account when the five years is up – will it revert to a free account, or will it shut down?

  3) If it reverts to a free account, will the content that we generated under the business account be visible still, even when we loose functionality?

  Hello robynlong2208,

  2) Once you cancel your paid plan your WordPress.com site will fall back to the free plan. We won’t shut down your website.

  3) Your generated content (posts, pages & media) will remain visible with the free plan.

  Please note that the business plan allows you to add plugins and themes. Once you downgrade to a free plan you will lose these options. On https://wordpress.com/pricing/ you can compare the functionality between our Free plan and our Business plan.

  Hi there,

  1) Can we pay for a 5 year business account up front?

  We do not support multi-year upgrades at this time, no. Should you decide to cancel after the first year we’ll have no way to refund you for the remaining years as we have a hard limit on when we can issue a late refund, and it also complicates domain registrations.

  All WordPress.com upgrades need to be renewed each year.

  2) If so, what would happen to the account when the five years is up – will it revert to a free account, or will it shut down?

  If you let a plan expire your site goes back to the free plan, and if you let a domain expire the site goes back to the free domain.

  3) If it reverts to a free account, will the content that we generated under the business account be visible still, even when we loose functionality?

  No content is removed, so anything you added while the plan was active will still be on the site. Only features added by the plan will be disabled or removed.
