upgrading my account

    i already have an account, but would like to upgrade to my own domain. Would it be possible to transfer the site, and will both links work?

    There is no transfer involved. All that changes is the URL. The content remains where it is. Every .wordpress.com URL that’s clocked will seamlessly redirect to the same content under the domain URL. For more read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/04/02/do-i-need-a-domain/

    In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. Please be clear on that.

    As you now have that underlying .wordpress.com blog you can proceed to purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

    Make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
