Upgrading my blog

Hi, I have no idea if I am in the right place, but I have a few burning questions to ask in regards to upgrading my blog. Firstly, I am thinking about upgrading to the WordPress business upgrade (so, I can sell adds and make a bit of pocket money doing what I love – blogging) but I have a few questions to ask..

I am completely clueless about the whole process, so bear with me…

1; Can I transfer the contents of my old blog over to the upgraded version? (I don’t want to lose 18 months of blog activity), followers, the lovely comments people have left on my posts, likes and such.

2; Could I pay someone at WP to do the transfer for me? (I am a complete techno-phobe when it comes to these things) and once done, will my blog look relatively the same as it did with all my post archive in the same place, or will I have to start from scratch? *Long sigh* – I image the posts will be positioned the same way, but I’ll need to reinstall all the widgets (like categories and twitter handles and such)

3; How much in totally does it cost to run a blog… is it $299 pm along with the hosting fee (around $4 pm?) any other hidden costs…I need to work out if it will be worth my while.

    Thanks for you advice.

For advertising, you may want to check out the WordAds program instead, because selling ads isn’t allowed: https://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

    1. Your main site, insidethelifeofmoi.wordpress.com will not go away (unless you delete it). When you upgrade to the Premium or Business Plan, then those plan features are added to what you currently have. You won’t need to transfer your content anywhere. Everything will look just as it does now, unless you choose to make changes (switching themes, for example).

    2. Since there isn’t a transfer, this is not necessary. If you were moving your site from WordPress.com to somewhere else, then you would have to deal with exporting, importing, adding a theme, and configuring things at the new location. There is an option, called the Guided Transfer, where you could pay someone at WP to move the site for you. Again, that would only come into play if you were moving away from WordPress.com, which you’re not.

    3. The cost for the Business Plan is $299 per year, which includes everything. There are no monthly hosting fees or hidden costs.

You may consider the Premium Plan, instead. It’s only $99 per year and may include the features that you want. In my (limited) experience, people generally choose the Business Plan to get the ecommerce features because they have products to sell.

Here’s a chart that shows the main features of each plan: https://store.wordpress.com/plans/

Thank you. I mistakenly got WordPress ‘business’ mixed up with WordPress.org… <- That’s the one I was asking about. Sorry to confuse you. If I am correct, you can sell ads on worpress.org, right?

Yes, you are correct. You will be able to sell ads on your site once it’s set up with the WordPress.org software.
