Upgrading plan: premium vs personal

  • Unknown's avatar

I purchased a custom domain through GoDaddy a while ago and would like to use it for my blog. (I didn’t realize at the time that WordPress would charge me to use it, or I would have just upgraded my plan then.) I understand now that I need to upgrade from the free plan in order to use this domain; what I am unclear on is whether or not I can use my domain with the Personal plan or if I have to purchase the Premium plan. It looks like I can do the Personal plan, but every time I try to tell my blog to use my domain it automatically tries to sell me the Premium plan. I don’t really want to spend the money on the Premium plan given that it’s full of stuff I don’t care about.

    Hi there,

I see that you started this forum post a couple of weeks ago, and I’d like to check in and see if you were still running into this issue.

The domain credit that you receive with your personal plan can be used to map a currently existing domain you have hosted elsewhere or to register a new custom domain with WordPress.com.

Please let me know if you are continuing to have trouble with this! I’ll keep an eye on this post.

  • Hi @unabashedlyobsessed,

Just in case, you haven’t resolved this, yes, you can do this with the Personal plan. Try going to https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and click on “Start with Personal” to add it to your account.

    Hope this helps.
