Upgrading to a business plan
-
Hello there.
I want to upgrade to a business plan but, I see that the wordpress.com branding will be removed.
My wordpress.com URL has been published in a book (I was the copyeditor). If the WordPress.com branding gets removed after upgrading to a business account and I get a free domain (which is different to my current URL) will the people still be able to access my WordPress site by using my old wordpress.com URL? Will that WordPress URL still exist after upgrading to my new URL? -
Hi there,
WordPress.com branding refers to the “Blog at WordPress.com.” text appearing at the bottom of your site.
If you want to continue using your free WordPress.com URL you can do that. The plan includes a free domain, but you’re not required to register one if you don’t want to. But you should be aware that will change automatically should you install any plugins on the Business Plan – sites using plugins work differently from regular WordPress.com sites, so they’re hosted on a staging domain, rather than a WordPress.com address.
However, your WordPress.com address will always work, for as long as your site exists. So even if you install plugins and it changes to the staging domain, or even if you register a custom domain for your site, the free example.wordpress.com address will still work, and people typing that address in their browser will still reach your site. They just won’t see that address in the browser address bar any more.
The only time the free address will stop working is if you delete the site, or change it to a different free address, which would completely disable the current one.
Let me know if you have any other questions :)
