Upgrading to a Paid Plan from free Sela theme
-
I want to upgrade to a paid plan to get rid of the ads. I currently use a free Sela theme plan. Is there anything I should know first before I hit that upgrade button? Can I use the same domain name? I have read posts here about people losing their whole site or posts. Is there a way to contact a happiness engineer if I run into problems, without waiting days for a reply? Many Thanks if anyone has any advice.

Hi there!
Thanks for reaching out. I’ll be glad to answer your questions.
Is there anything I should know first before I hit that upgrade button?
— Keep in mind that there will be auto-renewals for your plan unless you cancel.
You also have more features as you upgrade, which makes your website more power, and makes you have more control over it.
You can learn more about Subscriptions for your plan here, which will tell you more about what to do with your plan, and manage your purchases.
As you upgrade, you will get access to Live Chat Support, so you won’t need these forums if you are looking for personal support. Learn more about your plans and what each plan specifies here.
Lastly, you will get charged on the Month before the end of the subscription period in case any issues come up, like your payment method isn’t working, etc.
Can I use the same domain name?
— Yes, of course you can. You actually can get a custom domain name to get rid of “.wordpress.com” subdomain, and make it become your domain: “example.com”. You can learn more about custom domains here.
Is there a way to contact a happiness engineer if I run into problems, without waiting days for a reply
— Yes, you can actually get access to 24/5 Live Chat Support with Happiness Engineers from their support team. You can learn more about this here.
You will also will get faster replies with a paid upgrade, if you go through email support. You can just use the contact form, and you’ll hear back faster than users on a free plan.
I hope I answered your questions. If you have any more questions, or misunderstood any questions — reply and I’ll be able to help further.
Cheers!

Re payment – are you saying I won’t be charged until the end of the year? Do I select auto-renewal or does it do that automatically?
I will look at the plan info, but is there a guaranteed I won’t lose any of my posts, or if I do, are they recoverable? Because I have seen people post in the forums re losing everything.
Re domain name – I would like to use http://www.thehomeplace.wordpress.com and get rid of the web on the end, (I don’t care about the wordpress part), but the web word bothers me. but it was taken by someone else, who I don’t think has posted since 2007?? If someone else owns that domain, can I tell in advance? I believe that http://www.thehomeplace.com is taken also, when I google. Do you know if either of these are available.
I am quite nervous about switching, because of all the word I have put into it, but will probably try it next week. If I want to add music to my blog, is the Premium plan ($120/yr), better than the Personal ($60/yr)? I am assuming I will be able to keep the same features, widgets and setups?

Hi there!

— Yes, you’ll be charged automatically, and you’ll be charged one month before your subscription period (12 Months) in case your account runs into any issues.
plan info, but is there a guaranteed I won’t lose any of my posts, or if I do, are they recoverable? Because I have seen people post in the forums re losing everything.
— You shouldn’t lose anything, and you will only get more features. Unless you delete anything yourself, you shouldn’t lose anything from your site, and you’ll only be upgrading which gives you more features.
get rid of the web on the end
— Can you explain what you mean by this? If you can, I can help further, because I am not following with this part of your question.
I believe that http://www.thehomeplace.com is taken also, when I google. Do you know if either of these are available.
— If that is taken, then you would have to choose an alternative, and you’d have to choose a different name if the Alternatives don’t work.
I am assuming I will be able to keep the same features, widgets and setups?
— Yes, you will keep these features, and in fact you will get more features. You can learn more about WordPress.com Plans and the features they hold here.
If you have any questions, please reply to this thread.
Thanks!

By get rid of the web I mean my site http://www.thehomeplaceweb.wordpress.com vs http://www.thehomeplace.wordpress.com which is taken already, but by someone who I believe hasn’t posted since 2007. One of the live advisers told me to use a link he provided to upgrade the plan – as he says some people create a totally new site and then have no data transferred. So should I use that or hit the Upgrade link on my site? I’m confused now.
-
the link he told me to use was WordPress.com/plans or should I use the Upgrade button on the site?
-
Also is it going to ask me what my domain is? or will it just convert it over automatically to my current domain?
