-
My name is Sonny Theobald and my email address is (email visible only to moderators and staff)
I have never used wordpress even though I have (I guess) two free accounts.
I have my own third party website with the domain name of ‘Missionaries2Missionaries.org’ using hostingcheck.com (used to be know as NoMonthlyfees.com)
I have built this website myself using Dream Weaver and HTML code.
I am wanting to create a journal of events that we are involved in. But I don’t know how to do that.
What I want to know is: ( I understand that I will need a Premium Account – but I want to know if wordpress will do what I want it to do before spend my money just to find out that it can do what I want.)
Can WordPress create a journal for me?
Can WordPress upload to my personal website?
Seeing that I don’t know how to use WordPress is there tutorials to teach me how to access my personal website? And to upload new pages to my website?
And is there a tutorial to teach me how to create a journal on my website? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi sonnyswalk,

Are you looking to move the contents of this site over to WordPress.com? And if so, do you want to use your existing domain on the new site?
Can WordPress upload to my personal website?
Can you tell me more about what you would like to do? Once I know for sure, I’ll see if I can make some recommendations.
I understand that I will need a Premium Account – but I want to know if wordpress will do what I want it to do before spend my money just to find out that it can do what I want.
Paid plans can be refunded within 30 days or purchase. However, custom domains can only be refunded within 48 hours of registration. One option would be to purchase the Premium plan and set up your site without registering a domain. You can then get a feel for whether WordPress.com will do what you need. If you aren’t happy, you can request a refund (within 30 days) and revert back to the Free plan.
Seeing that I don’t know how to use WordPress is there tutorials to teach me how to access my personal website?
Absolutely! We have a whole range of support documentation. The Premium plan also includes access to email and Live Chat support, so you can reach us that way too :)
And to upload new pages to my website? And is there a tutorial to teach me how to create a journal on my website?
Yes, we can show you how to add new pages and create a blog.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

No I am not looking to move my website… I got a really do deal on the price of it all. I also have published it so many friends are following us on that site.

If you will look at my website I have at least two pages that I need to update and start using. The first one is “Our Blog” ( I am not really sure I fully understand what a blog is… I want to Journal our adventures and experiences thoughts and insights as we go about our travels.
=======
So in saying all of that,
1. I want to keep my existing website and not transfer anything to wordpress.
2. I guess I need to update my account to a premium account. Is that correct?
3. I need to find the tutorials on how to access my website so I can update it.
4. I need to find the tutorials on how to use wordpress to figure out how to blog… if that is the same thing as journaling. Is Blogging allowing people to respond and add comments to our entries? If Yes then I don’t want them to have access to do that.
5. While the pages I want to create are already there however, I am not sure how I want them to look like. I want my wife to be able to create entries for both of our pages “Our Blog” & the “Prayer Corner” My wife is not really good with computers and so she will write the entries and I will post them.
With both of those pages I would appreciate any suggestion on how I should set up those pages. -
Hi sonnyswalk,
1. I want to keep my existing website and not transfer anything to wordpress.
Missionaries2Missionaries.org is completely separate from WordPress.com and is hosted by HostRocket.com, so you don’t need to purchase a Premium plan here to make changes to your existing site or its content.
2. I guess I need to update my account to a premium account. Is that correct?
It’s possible to create a free site on WordPress.com so upgrading plans is optional. You can do so if you need additional features that aren’t available on the Free plan.
At the moment it looks like you have two sites:
- http://missionaries2missionaries.org/ which is hosted elsewhere
- https://sonnyswalk.wordpress.com which is hosted on WordPress.com and uses the Free plan (this site doesn’t have any content yet).
3. I need to find the tutorials on how to access my website so I can update it.
Missionaries2Missionaries.org isn’t hosted on our servers so we are unable to help you access it. I’d recommend contacting HostRocket.com — they should be able to help and advise you on the next steps.
I need to find the tutorials on how to use wordpress to figure out how to blog… if that is the same thing as journaling.
Do you want to blog here on WordPress.com and add a blog link on your existing site (Missionaries2Missionaries.org)? Or would you like the blog to be hosted on that site too? By that I mean, visitors won’t need to leave your site to view the blog.
Is Blogging allowing people to respond and add comments to our entries? If Yes then I don’t want them to have access to do that.
Correct, but comments can be disabled on WordPress.com. On your existing site, a comment feature won’t be available unless you/a developer has coded it into your site.
Thanks!

I am not use if you are thinking my website is hosted my HostRocket.com or not. I can assure you that my website is hosted by hostingcheck.com.
Also my website hosting pages show that WordPress can create a blog on my site. So I am interested in how that can be accomplished.
2 questions I have
1. Do I need a premium account to do that?
2. Where do I find the tutorials that I might need? Thanks for all your help

Hi sonnyswalk,
Also my website hosting pages show that WordPress can create a blog on my site. So I am interested in how that can be accomplished.
If your hosting company are offering WordPress, that will be the self hosted version called WordPress.org. WordPress.org is separate from WordPres.com and runs on your own hosting. The key differences between the two are explained in more detail here:
1. Do I need a premium account to do that?
If hostingcheck.com are offering to set WordPress up for you, you won’t need to purchase a Premium plan through WordPress.com. It won’t be connected to your site at all so you won’t be able to use the features.
I’d recommend speaking to hostingcheck.com to ask more about what they are offering and what they would be able to setup for you.
2. Where do I find the tutorials that I might need?
There are separate forums for self hosted WordPress.org sites where you can ask for more advice and information:

Come back to me if you’d like to know anything else.
