Upgrading to custom domain

    Hello,

    If I upgrade from ….wordpress.com to .com,

    1. How will existing readers know of the upgrade? Will there be a notification page on the old URL?

    2. How will this affect search engines that used to link to my blog’s pages with the old URL?

    WordPress.com and email followers will be updated automatically. And anyone visiting your old ________.wordpress.com URL will be redirected automatically to your new URL.

    2. How will this affect search engines that used to link to my blog’s pages with the old URL?

    As with your readers, anyone who clicks on a search result with your old URL will be sent to the new one automatically. It will take the search engines a bit of time to catch up. And it is possible that you might lose some traffic during that time. But generally, people find it to be a worthwhile trade for the professionalism of having their own custom domain.
