Upgrading to Domain

    I was thinking of updating and getting a domain from WordPress.com, but am wondering will it function like a hosted blog. For example, will I be able to direct people to specific posts (www.mysite.com/xyz/mmddyy/post-name)?

    Yes, that is what a domain will achieve.
    blogname.wordpress.com will be replaced with domain.com, i.e.
    blogname.wordpress.com/yyyy/mm/dd/post-name/
    will turn into
    domain.com/yyyy/mm/dd/post-name/
