Upgrading to Jetpack Professional

  • Unknown's avatar

I am running a self-hosted site on Media Temple with the free version of Jetpack and I also have a subscription to Askimet Pro. Am I able to upgrade to Jetpack Profession, and have Askimet bundled in, as well as security protection and backups? Or is that feature only available to wordpress.com hosted sites. I tried to go into my account and purchase it, but it is asking me to create a site on wordpress.com. Please advise.

Jetpack plans are meant for self-hosted sites, like yours on Media Temple, that use the Jetpack plugin. So you’re looking for the right thing. :)

The Jetpack Professional plan would replace your Akismet professional plan – the antispam features in Jetpack Professional are the same as those in the old Akismet plan.

You’ll first need to connect your Jetpack site to WordPress.com if it’s not already. You can do that here:
    https://wordpress.com/jetpack/connect

You’ll need to be log into your WordPress.com username during that process, but won’t need to create a WordPress.com site.

Once your Jetpack is connected to WordPress.com, visit this page:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

Select your self-hosted site, then choose “Upgrade” for the professional plan on the next page.

If you run into any trouble please contact the Jetpack team here:

OK… thank you. I did all of that and upgraded successfully. I already had an Askimet plan on the same WordPress.com account. So what do I need to do to consolidate… isn’t Askimet included in the new Jetpack Professional subscription?

Yes, Akismet is included on the Jetpack Professional plan.

I’ve ended the old Akismet plan and refunded your most recent monthly payment. No changes are needed to the plugin or anything, it is still active and fighting spam.

Looks like you have backups setup as well and those are looking good.
