upgrading to online store, and importing products from Storesonline website
-
Right we have an online store on the storesonline platform. We have had it for about 8 years. I also have an ignored ‘blog’ on WordPress (cozycomfortbab). We are considering exporting our products from our website and importing them to a new ‘online store’ website through WordPress. Do you know if these products will transfer? (not too excited about having to reenter everything). (I did a backup of the site and it is in a JAR file but I don’t know if that would be the file I would import for the products, I have a feeling not) Can you give me some info on this situation. Thank you!!!

UPDATE: Considering opening an ecommerce website through WordPress. I have downloaded our product from our present Storesonline website. They are now in 2 separate files; one is an XML file and the other is a tab delimited text file. Can one of these files be uploaded into a WordPress website???

Hi there,
We are considering exporting our products from our website and importing them to a new ‘online store’ website through WordPress. Do you know if these products will transfer?
First, to create an online store using WordPress you’ll need an ecommerce plugin, as that type of functionality isn’t standard in the WordPress software. On WordPress.com we specifically recommend WooCommerce. Our Business or eCommerce plan is required to use WooCommerce (or any other plugin), but also includes full support for that plugin and any add-ons for it available at WooCommerce.com. (While the Business Plan allows you to install any plugin you want, we don’t provide support for other plugins – we provide it for WooCommerce because we belong to the same parent company as them).
You can find more details on those plans here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/business-plan/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ecommerce-plan/
The cardinal difference is that eCommerce comes with WooCommerce, the Storefront theme, and a number of add-ons pre-installed, while Business is more a do-it-yourself option.
WooCommerce has a built-in importer to import products from other platforms, but it works using a .csv file:
https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/product-csv-importer-exporter/
StoresOnline doesn’t appear to have any public documentation, but from what I’m able to see you should be able to get a product export in that format from them. Then you can use that to migrate your products to a new WooCommerce site.
You can also pay a service like Cart2Cart to handle such a migration for you:
Also note that you can upgrade and set up your store with us while still on the free address. That way you can get everything ready on this end while your current site remains online. Then you only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.
Let me know if you have any more questions about this.
