Upgrading to Premium
-
My GoDaddy hosting is expiring and I’d like to not renew since I have been completely unhappy with them. I’ve been using the WordPress site consistently and am considering the upgrade. If I do, do I become yousaytomatokc.com instead of yousaytomatokc.wordpress.com? Is that all that is required or do I still require a separate host like GoDaddy?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also, what’s the $18 upgrade for domain registration? I didn’t see that on the upgrade page I looked at but saw it in a forum topic. These may be stupid questions but I’d like to figure out my best option before I have to give GoDaddy $250 for a service I hate. I don’t need anything fancy, just a web presence. Thanks!

All you need is the $ 13.- / year domain mapping – you need to keep your domain name registered not here as WordPress.COM is not able to accept incoming domain name registrations
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
you will not need to pay hosting to Godaddy
be sure to read the Terms of service – different here – biggest is you can’t sell your own ads here
if you have email with your domain name you have several options – some cost some don’t
Email for custom domain names

So where do I register my domain? Is WordPress the host if GoDaddy isn’t? Where’s the $13 coming from?
-
You can register a domain name here – that is $ 6.- / year – – but if you have Godaddy hosting you already have a custom domain name registered somewhere or your Godaddy site will not work
The $ 13.- comes from you and is paid to WordPress.COM for domain mapping – that is the magic that turns your-site.wordpress.com into your-site.com for visitors
