Upgrading to Premium Theme

If I upgrade to a premium theme am I automatically upgraded to pro? Meaning I won’t have ads? The theme I want to buy is $100 at WordPress.com but is $59 at the developer’s website. HELP!

No. The two are separate upgrades.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot upload the themes which are versions that are for WordPress.org installs only. Read > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

So if I would like to purchase this theme from the developer directly, I would need a wordpress.org site, correct? That is what my business blog is on and then I uploaded via ftp the site files. Does that sound right? Thanks for your help!

Correct. The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here > Appearance > Themes and there are 200 of them

You are only focused on the theme and the cost. IMHO you are failing to consider 2 other issues.
1. If you hire a web host and set up your own wordpress.com install your need to have the skills to manage it. You will be responsible for all upgrades, installations, backups and troubleshooting. If you install a theme or a plugin that negatively affects your blog, then you have to figure out what went wrong and fix it.2. For self-hosting figure an average monthly total cost (including cost of a domain name) of about $10 to $25 generally, but that all depends on storage and bandwidth requirements.

The No-Ads upgrade is only available to those who have free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Those who have their own WordPress.org installs make their own advertising decisions.

Correct, I mean if I purchase the premium blog from wordpress.com then I can ad the no ads feature. I understand perfectly how wordpress.org works, I use it for my business blog, http://www.blog.fusionproductionsonline.com/Blog. Thanks for your help!!!

There is no such thing as premium blog here at WordPress.com
There is no such thing as a No-Ads feature on a premium theme.There are premium themes and there are upgrades we can purchase. Among those upgrades, which are individually priced and/or contained in a bundle (no premium themes are contained in bundles) is the No-Ads upgrade, which is for one blog and for one year when it must be renewed.

I am probably starting to annoy you. If I purchase a premium theme, can I also have a way of making it ad free? That is my question!

1. You can purchase as many individual upgrades as you wish for any free hosted wordpress.com blog.
2. The only way to have an advertising free WordPress.com blog is to purchase a No-Ads upgrade which is an anuual upgrade that is for one blog and for one year when it is due for renewal.
- You can purchase a No-Ads upgrade individually. http://support.wordpress.com/no-ads/
- Or you can purchase a bundle of upgrades that includes the No-Ads upgrade in it.
- Premium theme purchases do not include the No-Ads upgrade. unless your purchase the No-Ads upgrade there will be advertising on the blog, just as there will be advertising on every other free hosted WordPress.com blog that does not have a No-Ads upgrade.

Also note that we cannot edit templates or themes on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template as this is a multiuser blogging platform. Only Staff can access those files and edit and every edit they make effects all blogs wearing the same theme.

There are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.
If you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/
