Upgrading to WordPress.org
-
I’m looking to upgrade my current wordpress.com website to wordpress.org, since there are a lot of other features currently unavailable to me.
I plan to use the Hatchling Plan at Hostgator, I was wondering how I would go about getting my current site switched over? I have a lot of link backs to my site and I don’t want to lose those when I setup my new site!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate. This is a matter of hiring a web host and setting up a WordPress.org self hosted install. Then you can export a copy of your blog content (minus theme and text widget content) out of the free hosted WordPress.com blog and import it into the WordPress.org install. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/ Alternatively, you can purchase a guided transfer and have WordPress.com Staff do the moving for you. http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

The authority and backlinks earned by the blog at this URL http://ukweather.wordpress.com/ belong to that URL. Unless you purchase a domain for the new blog site and a site redirect upgrade http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ the authority and backlinks will not be applied to the domain URL.

Thank you, appreciate that! The hosting says it’ll transfer my existing blog over to the new self-hosted blog for free so that wont be a problem. Shame about the backlinks though!
Thanks for the help

If your purchase a domain mapping upgrade via WordPress.com first then the authority and backlinks will not be lost.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/#update-nameservers
