Upgrading WordPress.com site question

My WordPress.com website has a lot of followers and I would like to upgrade to paid domain and monetize my site. My understanding is that I can only monetize a WordPress.org site, which have one of those, as well, but no followers since I just started it in April. My WordPress.com site has been active since November 2012 and I get traffic and likes on this page, but haven’t gotten any activity from other WordPress members since I started my .org site so I’m a little lost. I hope this makes sense. I’m ready to take my blogging to the next level but I don’t want to lose my .com followers.

Hi there,
When you say, “monetize your site”, what do you mean? Do you mean, running ads on your site? If so, you cannot run your own ads on a site on WordPress.com.
If you want to participate in an ads program like Google AdSense, you will need to have significant traffic (thousands of visits/day) in order to see any proceeds. When you get your site to that level of traffic, we have our own ads program, WordAds, which would allow you to run similar ads on your site here.
If you instead want to find your own advertisers, you could do that on a self-hosted site now.
