Upload backup images or convert to sRGB online

    What I want:
I need to delete my image library and upload modified backups with same names.
OR Convert my library to sRGB (again!) online, while they are on wordpress.com servers.

Why: I export my images from Lightroom with a preset to a local folder, with sRGB colorspace, preferred size and name format. It seems like images exported/converted from Lightroom with sRGB are not handled right with non-color managed browsers (another story). If I open and save them with Irfanview (manual or batch) everything seems fine. So I need to change my library with those reprossed images but without losing their post connections.
I have tried deleting a few and adding new images with same names but posts ended with no images.
So is there a way to do it?

    Thanks,
I know images are “backuped for us” and they are mostly safe, but I keep them in a folder for any other case. In this case they are useless if I can’t connect them to the posts.

  • Hi there – sRGB images are often not displayed properly by WordPress.com’s image-compression software, so I wouldn’t recommend that you replace your regular RGB images with sRGB images.

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help with, or if I’ve misunderstood what you’re trying to do – thanks.

    Thanks Kathryn,
My images should be sRGB already; they are exported/converted as sRGB from Lightroom RAW images. But as you can see on lots of forums, they are not handled same as Photoshop jpgs by browsers. I leave the details to Lightroom forums for that problem.
I found a solution for my self, if I open the same converted jpg with Irfanview and save as jpg again(I believe stays as sRGB), than non-color managed Chrome for example displays my images properly. It is not a wordpress bug; you can open the image directly from your local disc with the browser, same case.
You see the problem mostly on calibrated wide-gamut displays. Colors are over-saturated if you view them with non-color managed browsers. Using sRGB solves the problem and you can be almost sure what people see , but not with Lightroom exported jpgs.

  • Glad you found a solution that works, and thanks for the explanation.

But I still need to upload reprocessed images to wordpress.com.

  • I need to delete my image library and upload modified backups with same names.

But I still need to upload reprocessed images to wordpress.com.

Unfortunately, due to the way we save image backups, it isn’t possible to re-upload modified versions and maintain the same filename. Our system will append a number next to each subsequent version of the same filename, even if the original file is deleted from your media library. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.
