Upload HTML files to a WordPress domain? Is it possible?
-
A few months ago I made an yearly payment for my WP domain and decided to build it through WordPress themes, which was an amazing experience and allowed me to quickly setup my business online.
Now I need to fine-tune some aspects of my website and have decided to build it from scratch using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but I cannot seem to find an option to just upload those files into my domain and stop using my current theme.
People on the internet said I could manage my files through plugins, but my current plan doesn’t seem to allow plugins. Do I have an option here? I would love to keep using WordPress as it has served me well, but if I have to upgrade my plan simply to upload front-end files, I’m more likely to just pay for another domain through another service.

Hi @dangelodacosta, thanks for sharing a bit about your journey — I love hearing that building your business site with WordPress was a great experience for you!
I hear you on wanting more control now that you’re moving to a custom-built HTML, CSS, and JavaScript setup. On WordPress.com, uploading and managing custom front-end files directly (like you’d do with a traditional file manager or FTP) does require a Business plan or higher, as that’s what unlocks features like plugin support, SFTP access, and the ability to install custom themes or code.
If you’d prefer to stick with WordPress.com, upgrading would give you the flexibility you need to work with your own custom files while continuing to enjoy the security, performance, and support you’ve already experienced.
