If you are having problems uploading images then the most likely causes are:

    • The file size of the image is too large.
    • Your connection is slow.
    • There is a problem between your computer and the WordPress.com server. (You do not have a direct line here. Your connection will go through any number of hubs before it gets here and one problem along that line could cause a problem.)
    • Your storage space is full. You are provided 3GB of free space with your free WordPress.com account, but once full, additional media cannot be added. You can purchase the Space Upgrade in order to gain more space for your site.
    • If your image files are large, you may want to optimize the images before you try uploading them.

To make sure you have a good connection to the server, you can try clearing some of your temporary internet files. See the Browser Issues help page to learn how.

I doubt the image sizes are too large as they range from 1.3 to 2.5 mb, and I definitely have enough storage as I have only used 1% of the 3GB.
I have tried using more than one internet connection and still have been unable to upload images despite the change in connection. I have also cleared the cache and cookies on my browser, and attempted the upload on a completely different browser. Thank you for trying to help I’m still no closer to a solution.

    Refer to: Images https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/
And this one too: Add Media

    Please provide this specific info:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

I’m using a laptop to connect to the internet, through Windows. My primary browser is Chrome, however I’ve also attempted through Microsoft Edge.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for confirming about using different connections. Can you try resetting your regular connection by unplugging your modem/router for a few seconds so it can reboot?

Where are you trying to upload the image? The Add Media button in the post editor, or directly to the media library in WP-Admin?

I doubt the image sizes are too large as they range from 1.3 to 2.5 mb,

Those images are way too big, not in terms of uploading, but in terms of being optimised for the web. They should upload successfully, but you’re wasting a ton of space in your media library by using images that big, and your site will take ages to load if you use images at that size.

A 2MB image is typically 3000 – 4000 pixels wide. Meanwhile, your theme cannot display images any bigger than 980 pixels wide, and most computer screens won’t show an image at more than 1500 pixels wide. That brings you down to a file size of under 300kb. That’s almost a 16th of the file size of the original image.

Resize your images to the size at which they’ll display on your site, and your free media storage will last years longer, images will upload more easily, and your site will load faster.
