upload WordPress Export

    My company’s previous webhost sent me a zip file with all of the data from our wordpress site. Whenever I try to import the file though I get an error ‘413 status code for ‘POST /sites/161694213/imports/new” what am I doing wrong?

    Also can you check the storage of the import file. This error might have occurred due to the file exceeds the maximum limit.

    Hi nmcvickar,

    Are you using the WordPress importer on nmcvickar.wordpress.com?

    Import a Website

    If so, please try unzipping the .zip file and importing the .xml file(s). 15MB is the maximum supported file size for imports so you’ll want to make sure the .xml file isn’t any larger than that.

    I’ve also reset the importer, just to you have a clean slate.

    Come back to me if you have any more trouble.

    I have tried to upload just the .xml file, but it states that it is on an incorrect file format. It is only 4KB so I don’t see size as being the issue. the zip file I was sent contains everything from the previous WordPress site. It has all of the WP folders and files plus the php files. Would that not be the proper file to upload?

    Hi there,

    I had a look at the log of your site you’re trying to import the file and found out that you’re importing the wrong file type.

    You tried importing a wp-config.php and a sitemap.xml. Both those files are not valid WordPress export files. Here’s how to properly create a WordPress export file:
