Uploaded file does not work

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog is a kind of archive. I publish articles written by me. No problems in the past, but after a year or two of inactivity, suddenly I cannot upload a new article. I import it into the media library and from there it seems as if I place it in the correct place on the blog. It shows up with its correct title. But when I enter as a visitor, or as an administrator, and click on the title, the accompanying text, the article, is not found.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @bimmant, it sounds like the links are incorrect.

Can you send the link to the page where those links are displayed?

    Hi supernovia:

The link to my page is: https://bmthuren.wordpress.com/

The direct link to the article that will not open is: https://bmthuren.wordpress.com/abrir-puertas/

The usual way for a visitor to find it would be to choose the tab “castellano” (to find publications in Spanish), then choose “género” (gender) and scroll down through the list of titles. Until the most recent one, “Abrir puertas…”, which is the one that will not open.

I doubt that the problem is the link, since the article will not open either with the direct link or finding it in the other way. But as I said, it is also very strange that one of my followers could open the link she received by an automatic e-mail message.

I am most grateful for any help. Britt-Marie

  • I don’t see any post or page matching that in your Dashboard.

You do have 3 posts in your Trash, perhaps its one of those? https://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

Overall though, the post/page you listed doesn’t open because it doesn’t exist.

I do see where you uploaded a PDF with a similar title, but uploading a PDF doesn’t create a page itself, you’d have to create a post or page to embed it on.

Thanks for answering, Macmanx, but I am afraid I don´t understand.

As I said, the blog is organized hierarchically. The usual way for a visitor to find the article I just uploaded would be to choose the tab “castellano” (to find publications in Spanish), then choose “género” (gender) and scroll down through the list of titles. Until the most recent one, “Abrir puertas…”, which is the one that will not open.

I am not sure just what counts as a page. In the list of pages, “género” is one. So that is where the article should be. “Castellano” does not appear, even though the tab on my page has that name, but “bienvenide” seems to be the next page level above “género”.

In any case there IS a page on which I have tried to upload the article in question. As I have done so many times before with the rest of my publications. Which are all in pdf format, yes.

(The posts in the trash are not mine. Wonder where they came from.)

What has changed? Why does my blog not work the way it used to?

I suspect that my hierarchical archive idea is not the usual way to run a blog and perhaps WordPress has now made it impossible. If that is the case, please let me know, so that I can move everything somewhere else.

  • Hi there,

Looks like that you deleted the Abrir puertas page. Please follow staff-blorbo instructions to restore it from the Trash.

As far as I can see, there is nothing in my trash. And it is not possible that I have deleted the whole page by mistake, since all the other articles of that same page ARE there and DO open when I click on them. All except this new one, “abrir puertas”…

Which IS however in the media library from where I thought I had uploaded it.

If I made a mistake uploading it, how come it DOES show up on the page? It looks normal, it just does not open. BUT as I said, it did open when one of my followers clicked on its link in the e-mail she received from my blog.

    What is wrong?

OK, just forget about it. I just uploaded it again, in the same manner I always do, and this time it seems to have worked. Strange things happen, I suppose.

I just hope that this is not due to the fact that I had not worked with the blog for over a year. That would be unfair – I have had cancer!
