Uploaded Plugins not showing on plugins' page bk

  Hi,
  I installed wordpress 2.2.2 on my site thru fantastico. As suggested i downloaded plugins files at wp-content/plugins directory. But no uploaded plugins are displayed on the plugins page except those two preinstalled plugins. I changed the directory permission of ‘wp-content’ as well as ‘plugins’ directory also but to no avail.Please help me with this as i’m totally new to wordpress.
