uploading a custom theme

  i purchased a theme from an etsy shop, and she gave wonderful instructions on how to install the theme, however first step i’m already having issues, she says i go to appearances > theme > custom >upload but i dont even have that option.. i only see appearances >theme or appearances > custom design and neither of those are allowing me to really do the custom upload part, i kinda read somthing into paying 30$ for the year to allow me do upload my theme. is this right? can someone point me in the right direction?

  Hi nrothe,

  On WordPress.com, which is where your site is hosted, you are not able to use custom themes.
  You can read this article for more information http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

  Custom themes can only be added on self hosted versions of WordPress from WordPress.org.

  There are many great themes you can choose from either from the free list, or many premium themes you can buy directly from within WordPress.com
